Constraints now show in the Hierarchy

Constraints now appear as their own rows in the Hierarchy, under the object they constrain. In the videos they only show up in the Inspector.

Rive changed where constraints live in the editor. Until now a constraint was only visible in the Inspector, after you selected the object it was attached to. If you did not remember which object was constrained, you had to go looking for it.

What Changed?

Constraints now show up as their own rows in the Hierarchy, nested under the object they constrain. You can see at a glance what is constrained, and clicking a constraint row selects it and opens its full options in the Inspector.

Two smaller changes came with it:

  • Target For: select an object that other things point at, and the Inspector gets a Target For section listing them: constraints, clipping, draw order rules, listeners, joysticks, bone weights, text modifiers and transition conditions. Click one to select it on the stage. In the Hierarchy, a small reticle icon marks rows that something is targeting.
  • Options open on add: when you add a constraint, its options flyout opens right away instead of leaving you to find it.

What This Means for You

Everything the lessons teach still works the same way. Constraint types, targets, Strength, Copy, all unchanged. The only difference is that your Hierarchy shows rows the videos do not have, and a constraint you just added is already open.

If anything it makes the constraint lessons easier to follow. You can click straight on the constraint in the Hierarchy instead of reselecting the object it belongs to.
